 General Education about the HEART and its PROCESSES . 

The heart as we all know is a muscular organ,i.e,It is made up of muscles,which is pear-shaped in nature and slightly displaced to the left of thoracic cavity. It is the main organ of the Circulatory system in human beings and other mammals. 

 The heart is divided into two equal halves (thus,the left oxygenated half and the right deoxygenated half) by a wall called a SEPTUM.

The heart consists of four muscular-walled parts called CHAMBERS. These chambers are LEFT AURICLE (atrium), LEFT VENTRICLE (ventrium), RIGHT AURICLE (atrium) and RIGHT VENTRICLE (ventrium). 

The Auricles form the upper chambers of the heart whiles the Ventricles form the lower chambers of the heart. 

The Ventricles have thicker walls than the Auricles. This is because, the Ventricles pump and distribute blood to all parts of the body whiles the Auricles with thinner walls pump blood to short distance into the Ventricle.

The heart has four(4) valves (A valve is a membraneous flap that allows the passage of the contents of a vessel or a cavity in One direction, but stops or controls the flow in the opposite direction.)These four valves are :

¡. The bicuspid valve a.k.a Mitral Valve; it separates or divides the left atrium from the left ventricle of the heart.

¡¡. The Tricuspid Valve;it prevents the backflow of blood from the right ventricle to the right atrium.

¡¡¡. 2-Semilunar Valves; they are between the Auricles and Ventricles, that prevent back flow of blood from the ventricles into the Auricles during the systolic stage of heartbeat.

Some major blood vessels of the heart are : Aorta, Pulmonary Artery, Pulmonary Vein, Anterior and Posterior Vena Cava.

NOTE: Oxygenated blood means blood with oxygen and nutrients such as glucose and amino acids. AND  blood means blood without oxygen and nutrients but with carbon dioxide and waste products such as urea.
