Health Aid: Communicable Diseases- Hepatitis

 Communicable diseases are diseases that can be transferred from one person to another. They are mostly caused by pathogens (pathogens are agent that causes diseases. Examples of pathogens include; virus, bacteria, protozoans and even some fungi.)

Some examples of communicable diseases include, but not limited to:

1. Hepatitis is a liver disorder that causes the liver to be inflamed. It has its pathogen as ViRUS.

Hepatitis is most of the times caused as a result of consumption of food and water by infected feces, that is resulted from poor waste management practices like dumping of untreated sewages in water bodies.

There are five types of Hepatitis, and they are Hepatitis A- caused by hepatitis A virus (HAV),  Hepatitis B- Caused by Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C- caused by Hepatitis C virus (HCV), hepatitis D - caused by hepatitis D Virus (HDV) and hepatitis E- caused by hepatitis E virus (HEV).

Some common symptoms of Hepatitis 

1. Dark urine

2. Jaundice (i.e yellow coloration of the eyes and skin)

3. Pale stool

4. Fatigue

5.Loss appetite 

6. Sudden loss of weight 


Effects of Hepatitis 

1.Liver cancer

2. Cirrhosis



Ways of preventing hepatitis 

1. Practice good waste management practices like landfill, incineration and recycling.

2. Vaccination 

3. Seeking medical assistance urgently after seeing any other the symptoms 

2. Other communicable diseases include: HIV/AIDS , Measles, Typhoid, Flu or Carthar, etc.
