TheUNTOLD: The 7 Wonders of the Universe[ All you need to know]


 Have you ever heard of the seven wonders of the universe (world)?

Well in this article, I will be going to enlighten you about the 7 Wonders of the universe that was revealed on 7th July, 2023 (07-07-07 🌎).

On this day, 7th July 2007 - The 7 new wonders of the world are revealed: 1.Colosseum , 2.Great Wall of China, 3.Machu Picchu, 4.Statue of Christ the Redeemer, 5.Taj Mahal, 6.Chichén Itzá and 7.Petra.

1.Colosseum

Colosseum is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. 

Constructed between 70 -80 AD, it is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built, and is still the largest standing amphitheatre in the world today.

The Collosseum is 48 m high, lies on 2 hectares area, and can hold 50,000 - 80,000 spectators.

2.The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China - 21,196.18 km long fortifications built across the historical northern borders of ancient Chinese states and Imperial China as protection against nomadic groups.

The first Great Wall was built and finished in the years between 680 BC and 656 BC, in Eastern Central China, near the Yangtze River.

3.Machu Pichu

Machu Pichu - a 15th-century Inca citadel located in Peru on a 2,430-m mountain ridge.

Most recent archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was constructed as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). It was occupied from c. 1420–1532, and then mysteriously abandoned.

The "Lost City of Incas" was found centuries later by American explorer Hiram Bingham. He made public the existence of the Inca citadel of Machu Pichu in 1911.

4.Statue of Christ The Redeemer

Statue of Christ The Redeemer - an Art Deco statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with French engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida sculpted the face. 

Standing on top of the 710-m high Corcovado Mountain, the statue is 

30 metres high, excluding its 8-metre pedestal and the arms stretch 28 metres wide.

The statue is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, weighs 635,000 kg and was constructed between 1922 and 1931.

5.Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal - "Crown of Palaces" - a mausoleum on the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra, India.

"A tear on the face of eternity" - the 73- m high ivory-white marble mausoleum was built between 1632 and 1653 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. She died on 17 June 1632, while giving birth of their 14th child...

6.Chichén Itzá

Chichén Itzá - a Mayan-Toltec ruined city in Central America, in the northern part of Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico.

🔸️La Pirámide or the Temple of Kukulcán - was constructed between the 8th and the12th centuries AD. It is a 30-m -high Mesoamerican step-pyramid that dominates the center of the Chichén Itzá archeological site.

7.Petra

Petra - archeological city in southern Jordan. 

Petra is an ancient city dating back to the 4th century BC, established as a trading post by Nabateans, an Arab Bedouin tribe.

By the beginning of the 8th century AD, Petra was largely abandoned and lost in time for eight centuries. 

Then, in 1812, the unique ruins of Petra were "discovered" by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt.
